Tristy Lee- DIY | Home Decor | Art | Project Inspiration
Over that last few years, we have been making DIY Halloween witches home décor. The collection includes witch shoes, potion bottles, and spellbooks. As my collection grew, I have wanted to create a witch’s hutch. I have been searching high and low for the right hutch to makeover and house my witching décor collection. Sadly this was not the year that I found one in time for my display. I am an advocate of buying things once, so wait till you see the right thing. Not having my ideal option would never stop me from figuring out ways to display my collection. This year I decided to build my Halloween witches display on my large glass coffee table.
PROJECT INSPIRATION:
A few years ago, we had a flood where we lost all of our Halloween Décor. In the last couple of years, we have been rebuilding years. I was on the lookout to add a couple of specific things this year. First, I wanted to find an antique brass chandelier, a deck of tarot cards, some DIY witches shoes, and some DIY spellbooks. I have a collection of potion bottles, both DIY and collected. One of my favorite places to look for Halloween décor is Restore it is a thrift store for all things home. My mom and I stopped at the Restore in St. George, UT, and got so lucky they had 50% off everything in the store. We found the perfect brass chandelier, a copper cup and kettle, and a silver bowl with incredible patina. I can’t help looking at a few of my favorite home décor spots for something new and found the cutest owl at Coming Home décor shop in Orem, UT. I found a couple of other cute accent pieces with a fortune teller theme at Michaels.
DISPLAY YOUR HALLOWEEN WITCH DECOR IDEA VIDEO
SUPPLIES FOR YOUR HALLOWEEN DECOR DISPLAYS:
Get it all out and bring it to a working space. Halloween at our house is far more daunting than even Christmas. It is a real Nightmare Before Christmas…hahaha. When I say it took me a full day to put out my indoor Halloween décor, I’m not kidding. We have a ton of stuff. I pulled out all the traditional Halloween theme décor we have, including our Halloween gnomes. Then I gathered the optional items like antique woodwork, metal décor, candle holders, cups, and glasses.
WITCH POTION BOTTLES:
This is a fun DIY project that is quick with empty bottles from around the house, thrift stores, and dollar stores. Let your family and friends go crazy on these. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest.
HALLOWEEN GNOMES:
These are holiday favorites at my house all year long. I have two sets for Halloween. They are so fun to create, and they add the perfect charm to every holiday. Check out How to Make Gnomes.
HALLOWEEN WITCH SHOES:
Get inspiration look at our DIY Witch Shoe Party. Add this to your plans for this October.
CHANDELIER:
This brass chandelier I cut off the electrical because I will only use it for décor, but it creates a fantastic centerpiece. I plan to use this next year for an outdoor party surrounded by candles and flowers.
HALLOWEEN WITCH BOOKS:
This was another tremendous DIY party idea. Get inspiration for your witch’s books for our home décor. You can do it try it out.
TABLECLOTH | BLANKET | TABLE RUNNER:
Protect your surfaces from scratches from your home décors by putting a protective layer down on the surface.
IDEAS FOR HOW TO DISPLAY YOUR HALLOWEEN DÉCOR:
FORTUNE TELLER BOOKCASE:
When I think of witches, I think of spells and fortunes. The bookshelf decorations include a DIY Fortune Teller Sign. Then I added a couple of things I bought from Michaels, a palm reading hand, and a wooden eye. I found the fantastic rock spider at a home décor shop in Mesquite NV this summer. Always be on the lookout for striking pieces. It would be fun in a summer display as well.
WITCHES TABLESCAPE:
This was the trickiest tablescape that I have ever done. It is a sizeable 6ft square table that I wanted to be the focal point of my indoor Halloween Décor. I spent the first-hour putting things out in groupings like I usually do on my kitchen table, and it looked awful. The initial attempt looks messy and disorganized like it was my supply storage area. I was disappointed and frustrated, so I decided to take a break. Taking a break is one of the best tips I can share with you. You often have to step away and relax to let the mind open up to think of different options. I was mid-sentence visiting with my mom, Joan, when an idea hit me. I needed to create a centerpiece with a peak. So I grabbed a pillow off the couch, put on the table, threw a blanket over it, and put the chandelier in the middle. It was magic as soon as I did that I could add groupings around the table to create a visually appealing look from all angles. I added the dragon witches shoe I made and several spellbooks. The owl I picked up from Coming Home looks perfect perched on top of the chandelier. I used Tarot cards in each area to create continuity.
WITCHES POTION BENCH:
This is the most kid-friendly display, and that is why I put it by the front door to make sure it is welcoming to even our littlest trick or treaters. This one is full of fun potion bottles, a mysterious spellbook, and a friendly metal witch.
Halloween is an opportunity to reaccess your inner child and to remember all the fantasy of the season. If you’re the Halloween house in your neighborhood or want to add some accents to your home areas, we hope this inspires you. We would love to see how you display your Halloween home décor.
TELLING YOUR STORY THROUGH DÉCOR:
Making things to display for the holidays is a great way to give your home decor instant memories and story. It is impossible to not think of loved ones and the fun times spent creating things together. Please share ideas and pictures of your Witch Decor Displays.
