Incorporating holiday décor into your interior design is a great way to display your memories. So we really are the eccentric over-the-top family during Halloween, but in general, we like to add subtle nods to the seasons and holidays to our home décor. This 4th of July, we are sharing several homemade 4th of July decorations to inspire your home décor. Typically we do something on the porch and front door, then we continue into the home with our tablescape and bookcase.

Door Decorating Ideas:

4th of July Finished Wreath

4th of July Clothespin Wreath:  Get a wire wrap wreath ready for the holiday with some red, white, and blue fabric options and some clothespins.  We have a walkthrough complete with a video to get you started.  This fun craft can be done with the help of your kids.  When it is finished, it looks excellent with Farmhouse décor and can be hung on a wall or door.

Final Floral Wreath

4th of July Floral Wreath: I have to say this was my favorite this season. Mom, Joan Atwood, makes such beautiful arrangements, and this one turned out to be perfection on my front door. This is an absolute must if you want to start working with florals. The walkthrough and video will give you inspiration for your own DIY floral wreaths.

Porch Decorating Ideas:

Our front porch is a favorite spot of mine to decorate. I leave an antique trunk, that was my first ever purchase of home décor when I was 16 at an estate sale, at all times on the porch.
I add things to accent the season and holiday. For the 4th of July, the show stopper was the 4th of July, floral wreath. So I wanted to accent it with complementary items. I gathered all my supplies:

Vintage Wooden Pepsi Crates

Antique pop crates:  These Pepsi crates with the red are a perfect addition.  When I am getting ready to display things, I try them in several combinations.  I tried them from several angles, side by side, one up and one down.  Ultimately I decided on a layered look where they were stacked off-center on top of each other.

Ice cold cola sign

Ice Cold Cola Sign: actually found at big box store in their summer décor section. I am careful about what I put outside. In case of theft or weather, I don’t want to be heartbroken if something happens to it.

Blueberry Garland

Matching blueberry garland: to pull in the berry look with the floral wreath. I also found some small blueberry florals that I cut up and added to the tablescape and put them into the Jars on the trunk.

Mercury Glass Vases

Replica mercury glass vases: I don’t think these are antiques, but I did find a set of 3 bottles at our favorite consignment store in Las Vegas NV, Lynn’s World Consignment.

Jack Decor

Smalls decor: pieces this is a giant replica of the kid’s jacks game. It is one of my favorite colors for décor accents red. I picked it up at hobby lobby. I regularly use it with my Valentine’s décor as well.

Front Porch 4th of July DECOR:

Here is the finished product with all of the pieces together.
I must say one of my favorite things to do when I have the porch all set up is to take holiday pictures of Lily. She is always so excited to get her picture taken after I have spent time taking photos of the porch she is ready for some attention.

Bookcase:

I like to add some little details around the house without going overboard. I added a few red, white and blue fabric flags and displayed the Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls passed down to me from Grandma Craig.

Decorating for the 4th of July can be a trip down memory lane:

One of my favorite summer activities was going to Flaming Gorge Reservoir for camping trips. My dad and Grandpa Toy were experts at rafting the Green River. We would spend hours floating and fishing. Grandpa Toy bought a pontoon fishing boat that we still go out on with my dad. They would launch fireworks over the lake at night, and all of the boats would put Christmas Lights on them and do a boat parade for the 4th of July.
Decorating for the holidays will keep these memories alive and make you smile as you share your stories. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook so you can see behind the scenes at Lilies and Jets.
